![]() Catherine Burnes & Jan Calderon Named 2010 Youth of the Year...
The 61st annual Awards Night was held on June 3rd to honor the shining stars of Boys & Girls Club programs. The highlight of the evening was the naming of the 2010 Youth of the Year. Catherine Burnes, 2010 Young Woman of the Year, is entering her junior year at Central High School. Her involvement at the Club includes the Keystone Club where she serves as president, Smart Moves, Club volunteer and a part-time employee. The staff sees Catherine as a strong, independent and intelligent young woman. Catherine's goal is to attend college, majoring in journalism, in hopes of becoming a news broadcaster. In her essay on what the Club means to her, she wrote: "The Club has opened so many doors for me. I went from not fitting in to having many people at the Club who love me for who I am. The Club is absolutely my favorite place to be." Jan Calderon, 2010 Young Man of the Year, is also entering his junior year at Central High School. Jan has attended the Club for 7 years and has been involved in all types of programs including dance team, theatre, Torch Club, Gemstones, Smart Moves and Keystone. Jan is a part-time staff member and his goal is to attend the New York Film Academy to study acting and film. In his essay on what the Club means to him, Jan states: "My mom and my Boys & Girls Club family are the ones always there for me when I am sad and when I am happy, too. The Club has changed my life to become a better person and be a positive role model." Congratulations to Catherine & Jan!
